Copy what's out there.

Simple functions that make DropBox and GoogleDrive easy are not available in OneDrive. My pet peeves are around basic file management functions.

1.) Sharing a folder - The person you share the folder with can't upload files to the folder. What good is this? We grant read only or edit privileges, but our collaborators can't collaborate by adding files to the folder. DropBox does it and Google Drive does it. This really limits my ability to collaborate.

2.) Copy a folder - You can move folders and delete folders, but you can't copy a folder?! You can copy an item in a folder. What a pain in the butt! I need to copy a folder that contains several sub-folders that collectively make up a template for new projects. My work around was to download the whole folder group, rename it and attempt to upload it again. Fail! One Drive bombs on trying to upload folders within folders. Help! DropBox is the best at this. You can do it online and offline. GoogleDrive you have to copy offline and let the replicate to the online folder.

3.) SharePiont - Microsoft is trying to force feed us SharePoint for some of these basic things. I thought maybe a business version of DropBox was the answer until I set up a free account and saw a SharePoint looking UI. No thank you! I had a bright student intern sum up SharePoint when she said "using SharePoint makes me feel stupid!" You are not alone. A classic case of a company investing so much for so long that you just can help yourself from not doing it any more. Ditch Sharepoint as an end user solution and get OneDrive to work like DropBox or Google Drive. It is too easy to get lost in there. Who wants to check in and check out documents. Collaborate like GoogleDocs does.

OneDrive doesn't play well with a Mac.

4.) OneDrive is not compatible with older versions of the Mac OS like version 10.6.8

5.) Synching - After a successful install the synch process crashes if the file path name in one of the folders is too long. This doesn't happen in DropBox or Google Drive. Starting the synch process requires logging in and clicking through several steps. One of the steps is selecting the folders that you want to synch. Because the long file name was crashing the synch my logic was to avoid the folders with files that have long file path names. So I deselected those folders in the synch set up. I still get the error messages and it still won't synch! Solution... skip the problem files rather than killing the whole process. Create a list of problem files to be resolved later. I still haven't successfully synced! I have too many files to clean up before I can get there.

I know what you are thinking, I should just use DropBox or Google Drive right? I would, but I am trying to provide a solution for a company that is primarily a Microsoft shop and everyone uses the Office Products. So working in an environment like OneDrive that allows for editing of Excel and Word documents online promises simple access from OneDrive. But as we early adopters have come to expect of Microsoft, suffering through their early releases is the norm. But this isn't an early release.

Since there is no easy way to communicate design issues to the engineers we are left with complaining in the Social Sphere. If there is enough traction to get their attention hopefully these features will be pushed to the front of the development queue.

Succeeding at pretty much anything means at some point you have to be ok with failing. A friend of mine who has studied and taught mixed martial arts for many years was meeting with his Sensei. They were discussing a major break through for his teacher during his competitive years in Jujitsu. He wasn't the biggest guy to enter the ring but he became known for being one of the most innovative.

The secret, he told my friend, to his success came in the middle of a fight with a brutal defending champion. By the end of a round in the middle of the fight my friend's teacher thought he would not be able to continue. He was physically spent. His father was in his corner and encouraged him to persevere. He told him that his opponent was growing weak but was disguising it well. At a crucial point in the next round the Sensei was getting choked out. In his struggle he believed that if he continued he might die. Something became instantly clear. He was ok with death.

He wanted the championship even if the worst of all possible outcomes were to occur. At the moment he faced death and accepted it, all fear left. His courage and faith felt limitless. He finished and won the fight. From that defining moment on, each time he entered the ring he accepted death, found peace, and fulfilled his destiny. He left the sport an undefeated world champion!

Amazing commitment!
The answer is yes you are and here is I guy who can explain why with exhaustive detail. Because I know you will be smarter for enduring the exhaustive process check in it out.

Here is one of the simple intelligence questions.

QUESTION: If the total cost of a bat and a ball is $1.10 and the bat is $1.00 more than the ball, how much does the ball cost?

or asked this way....

Harder version of the QUESTION: If the total cost of a bat and a ball is $1.10 and the bat is $1.00 more than the ball, how much does the ball cost?

Did you guess that the ball would cost $.10? Most people do. The question (if you missed the question see it here) looks deceptively simple.

But if the ball did cost $.10 then the bat would cost $1.10 and the total would be $1.20. Most of us learned basic algebra in grade school. But to do the following in your head is more time consuming:

Total Cost = $1.10

Ball = X

Bat = X+1.00

So we are solving for $1.10 = X+(X+$1.00)

subtract $1.00 from both sides:

$.10 = 2X

dived both side by 2

$.05 = X

ANSWER: The ball costs $.05

For some reasons when we have to take time to read the more difficult to read version of the question we are more willing to take the time to do the algebra.

In Malcolm Gladwell's new book David and Goliath he explores some very interesting and counter intuitive phenomenons related to a variety ways that the underdog wins and wins big.

phenomenon of computer processor speeds doubling every 18 - 24 months.
This rate of change creates a ripple affect across many industries as new
products get smaller and the frequency of better, faster versions becoming available is shorter. This creates a perception that everything around us is changing SUPER FAST! Most of us feel the ripple affect when we experience things like
the Internet, real time Facebook, and a plethora of apps on our smart mobile
devices.

Alongside all this noise and change
is an opposing force that arguably neutralizes Moore's potential for impact on
society. I suggest that this force is even slowing the rate of change within our societies. This momentum killer is the same force that creates
inertia for Moores law. The force growing in inertia is us. There are a
lot of us that innovate cool things and there are a lot more of us that don't
like change. We are highly skeptical stick in the muds that prefer retarded momentum. Just look at our US congress for proof of that. The average age of a Senator is 60 and 55 for a house of representatives. the 0-19 year old change agent group is actually shrinking from 39% to
27%. This leaves the majority of
us in the middle-aged group of 20 – 64 year olds. Because I think we start getting more resistant to change in
our mid 50’s the momentum killer group is going to be even larger. In 2010 the 55-64 group was already
100M+. These stodgy old farts are

When I think I am onto an innovative idea to a address a need or problem using a combination of technologies discovered or developed, I remind myself of the even more difficult task of predicting how ready the market is to like and adopt it. Whether is it a new song, gizmo, software or movie, the earliest possible point of marketability is when the market need/desire intersect with product's capability. I call this the collision point. It might look exciting, and even inspiration at first, like the photo above showing the collision of protons and electrons. But many times in the life cycle of an idea the point where the collision occurs only touches a small portion of the market, like the innovators and maybe the early adopters portion of the graph shown below.

Take the 4 million MySpace artists whose Mom's loved their latest song. That small biased market research is not an indication that there is a market out there ready to buy your product. A willing few may share with their friends, especially when it costs them nothing. To an experienced optimist like myself this may be all that is needed to jump energetically head first into an empty pool. Some of my early ideas were merely empty pools because I was unprepared for the adventure ahead. If you are full of testosterone, and armed with an MBA like I was, you may be tempted to beat your competition to the market and find your own empty pool. If you do, your great swan dive of faith could leave you unconscious at best and might even render you comatose.....unless you've planned to survive the iterative cycle of new product and market development!

The Tipping point

Several years ago as I argued passionately for a early stage business concept with a my boss, he told me that the pioneers are the guys with the arrows in their backs. He didn't want to take the risk. I couldn't argue with that. I had my share of arrows. If you have an early stage idea and want to be one of the pioneers who can survive a few arrows then develop a plan for surviving until the market's tipping point arrives.

The tipping point is when the stars align for your BIG idea. Malcolm Gladwell's book The Tipping Point is a great read. The tipping point can be the smallest combination of things that have evolved to make conditions perfect for adoption within your SAM (serviceable available market) to build with some momentum behind it. For the fax machine, just enough people had to have one before everyone needed one to compete.

I don't know if it is possible to make tipping point estimation a science, but we are certainly capable of seeing the trends develop in our social media world. Now we can listen to the discussions of our market by searching key words and hash tags, measure the trend's growth and predict the arrival of the tipping point. I also highly recommend Seth Godin's Tribes for a detailed look at building momentum.

We will explore some strategies like prototyping, MVP, and hibernation, in other blog posts. For now I will only highlight that tools like patents, copyrights and strategies for perseverance will give the survivors the extra stuff needed to wait while market conditions evolve. Then when the market conditions are right, you can paddle out into an ocean of opportunities and ride a wave of momentum. If you time the wave right, you might be one of the few to reach the wave's crest and be the market leader.

In my next post we will continue this discussion and explore the smoke screens that can mislead us into believing our market's tipping point is just around the corner when it really isn't. And will look at some strategies for riding the storm out. Until then hang on and enjoy the ride and look out for empty pools.

Is it realistic to think that like city planning, a group of people can come together and discuss the future of something like the emerging digital rights supply chain? Like city planning a well thought out long term perspective has many advantages. Some of the things that come to mind are competitive advantages, better use of capital and the benefits of speed to market. All can occur when a group agrees on their roles and collaborate using scarce investment dollars to avoid reinventing the wheel many times over.

I agree that something as vastly independent, political and competitive as the potentially thousands of businesses and people who are already investing in this emerging supply chain makes this a challenge. But what the heck, I still think we are early and if a few crazy people are willing, we should try. If nothing else we will start a discussion about the major categories for investment and what does or doesn’t make sense.

This post isn’t the place to get into the details of the “reinventing” that goes on. The purpose of this note is to suggest we start and find the platform for the discussions both on the web and in face-to-face meetings. I am all for openness and collaboration and kumbaya, but it is also good business to create geographic / community oriented competitive advantages through collaboration. Sometimes the secret sauce needs to stay secret until the time is right.

If you are a songwriter or someone who creates other copyrightable works, this excerpt of a conversation may sound familiar to you:

I just wrote a song and want to get a copyright and protect my creative idea, but I am on a budget and it costs approximately $40 to register a work with the Library of Congress if I do it on my own and as much as $150 if I use the services of a professional. Because I am writing all the time, I’d go broke registering every work as I create them. I’d rather wait until I have 10 or 15 works and register them as a collective work. It seems smart to register and I can save money registering several songs as a collective work. Is this the best way to balance my desire for getting my copyright and protecting myself from infringers with the constraints of my limited budget?

Simply put, the answer is no.

Some people still believe the act of registration gives them “their copyright” as they perceive it, but it doesn’t. At a recent networking event, one participant said, “I want to register to get my copyright.” They said they thought it was, “… the rights that require others to get my permission to use my work give me the opportunity to make money from my work.” These rights are the exclusive rights. A creator is entitled to these exclusive rights with or without the registration a work with the U.S. Copyright Office. The benefits of the exclusive rights that the law provides are available even if a song is not registered. The exclusive rights are vested at the moment of creation. The U.S. Copyright Law specifies those rights as:

The right to make copies

The right to distribute copies

The right to make derivative works

The right to publicly perform or display works

The right to perform works through digital audio transmission (sound recordings only)

One of the immediate benefits of registration is establishing evidence that a work exists. The other benefits of registration (getting into court and damage awards) do not apply until someone has infringed your work or someone claims you infringed their work and you must go to court to protect rights. Most who register will only benefit from the evidence portion of their work.

The vast majority of creators never use those benefits of registration because their works will never be infringed. And of the few works truly infringed, only a small fraction of those actually justify the cost of going to court. Spending $35-150 per registration is hardly practical for the benefit of proving the date of creation. Historically, the answer has been that it’s still the best possible proof, and if you do go to court, you’re ready. If lower-cost and superior alternatives exist that provide the benefit of proof, it makes sense to consider a different rationale for the expense and timing of copyright registration.

The downside of the current registration process

The downside to the approach used by the songwriter who asked the initial question, “Should I wait and register collective works?” is failing to have proof of creation when a work is created. Many songwriters are proud of the10 to 20 songs a year that they write even though they may write more. They typically wait 12 to 18 months to accumulate a collection of works valuable enough to spend $35 per registration for benefits, two-thirds of which are rarely accessed. In between writing songs, creators play writer’s nights, collaborate with co-writers and share the works they are most excited about with their friends and fans. This exposure or when a work begins to make money is when the risks of not having proof matters. And there have been many examples of co-writers inadvertently using ideas from an earlier work for other projects. The infraction may not be intentional, but the result is the same. The burden falls to the creator of the original work to prove the idea was first created at an earlier date than the later infringement.

In the rare event a creator actually needs all the benefits of registration (proof, court access and determination of damages), having proof is the most important benefit. Proof of creation can create a strong enough case to avoid expensive court costs and attorney’s fees. In a perfect world, creators would start establishing proof at the moment they start the creative process and they would register copies of their work numerous times as it develops. Few can afford to register multiple copies of works or are likely to invest so much time doing non-creative tasks. These problems are what sparked the ideas that inspired the company MyWerx to design a solution.

New forms of evidence

Understanding some of the types of proof that are now available can also help you decide when it’s best to register a work with the Copyright Office. The Internet, cloud computing, fingerprinting, and GPS location have created a completely new paradigm for proving date of creation that is far superior to a Copyright Office registration in both the quantity and quality of the evidence and it is available at a fraction of the cost.

Escrow. One of the best forms of evidence is a physical copy escrowed with a neutral third party. The earliest possible escrow date is important. I recommend escrowing a work the day it is created. The cost of hard disk space in today’s cloud-computing realm is remarkably inexpensive. It can cost less than a stamp you would use to put on an envelope and mail copies of a work to yourself (a poor man’s copyright).

Collaboration. Another form of evidence available today is proof of collaboration. MyWerx.com uses Facebook-like interactions between collaborators of a work to confirm they know one another and even validate the types of contributions made to a work. Like Facebook, this form of social networking is free and it results in a new form of evidence in the development of a work as well as improved levels of creative collaboration.

Geo location. Smart phones have made GPS location tracking ubiquitous. You can even identify the location of where you are when you take a picture or write a song. The MyWerx iPhone application adds a geo tag to the creator’s work at their discretion. Now you not only have an escrow date, but you also have evidence of the place and time on the day it was created.

File fingerprints. Each digital file turns a photo, text or music into a bunch of 1’s and 0’s. Those 1’s and 0’s, in combination with information embedded in a file, create individual identities or fingerprints for each file. This stored and dated unique identifier (a long string of characters consisting of numbers and letters, also called a hash) is associated with the title of the work, the authors and their contributions. Each time that a work’s file is accessed by the software the same unique ID is created. When two unique ID’s match, the software can identify that the file is the same file previously escrowed. A computer couldn’t have created the fingerprint without the file and therefore the day the fingerprint is created is essentially the escrow date of a work. In order for the fingerprint to serve as proof, the file must also exist. The two in combination provide the proof.

Version history. Another compelling form of evidence is a third party authenticated log of multiple versions of a work as it develops. Having a log of each version or iteration of a work serves as undeniable evidence that those who are storing the versions created it.

Evidence will transform marketing

New advancements in technology have enabled proof of creation of intellectual property at a price everyone can afford. It is simple to use and it’s truly revolutionary. It is important to note this evidence does more than protect. It will be the new norm in market preparation and will aid your customers in finding, buying and experiencing your products at a whole new level. I will save the details of that for another article.

More Protection / Less Investment

But without a centralized database of artist and track information, performance rights organizations (PRO) have often been unable to distribute money appropriately, denying publishers, labels and artists of royalties that are rightfully theirs.

SoundExchange, the nonprofit organization tasked by the U.S. Congress to distribute digital performance rights royalties for satellite radio and Internet music streams, ended 2008 with about $40 million in royalties that it couldn't distribute due to insufficient identifying data, with another $39 million held in escrow for artists and labels who hadn't yet registered with SoundExchange. What can be done about this situation? Here are five steps that the industry can take now.
Artists and copyright holders must register to get paid by SoundExchange and other PROs. When a PRO receives performance logs from music services, it matches a performance record with the artist or copyright holder who earned the royalty and issues a royalty check. Organizations like ASCAP, BMI and SESAC only collect royalties for registered songwriters and publishers, so unregistered earning parties miss out entirely. SoundExchange, however, collects for all recording artists and master recording rights owners, even those who aren't familiar with digital performance royalties. If the earning party is one of thousands who haven't yet registered with us, we hold those funds in a marked account until they're claimed. To encourage people to register and claim those funds, we work with other services that maintain artist information, such as MySpace, SonicBids, CD Baby and ReverbNation. But tapping into other databases is only a temporary solution.

Copyright holders must include complete metadata on all tracks. It is essential that creators include all relevant metadata on each digital track they release, including, at the very least, artist or group name, copyright holder or label name, and track and album titles. Artists and labels often send out tracks with little or no metadata attached, making it very difficult, if not impossible, to determine who should be compensated. Due to insufficient metadata, millions of dollars wind up in buckets labeled as "promo only," "self-released" and "label unknown."

Music services must take responsibility for complete and accurate reporting. The digital age has allowed SoundExchange to replace traditional sample reporting with per-track reporting. Counting each track and spin is the fairest way to distribute funds, but it requires more and better data due to the sheer number of payable performances. Unfortunately, music services tend to report data they are given, rarely doing any additional research. One illustration of the slipshod data we receive from music services: Beethoven ranks among our top 25 unpaid artists, even though the composer died long before the first sound recording was made. That most likely means that orchestras performing works by Beethoven aren't being compensated for use of their recordings.
Copyright holders must register their repertoire. While SoundExchange has added staff to deal with the challenge of insufficient information surrounding performance royalties, it's imperative that copyright holders help by registering, monitoring and correcting their repertoires with relevant organizations. The United Kingdom requires copyright owners to register their entire repertoire; otherwise, they don't get paid.

SoundExchange's statutory model requires payments based on reports by services that use sound recordings. Even from services that report data consistently, SoundExchange has a 93% match rate. Given the 7 billion tracks we processed last year, the remaining 7% represents 490 million performances that need individual attention. New digital tools can fix some of these inaccuracies, but many more require manual adjustments. Rigo Starr, for example, is not a misspelled Beatles name, but an African guitarist. "Aim" is sometimes reported to identify any one of more than a dozen unrelated labels—Aim Records, AIM International, Aleho International Music, etc. Repertoire research takes up resources and delays payments.

The music community must promote the exchange of data and payments. Foreign artists played on U.S. music services accrue royalties stateside, which must be claimed by their own nation's PRO before they can be paid. At the end of 2008, SoundExchange held about $23 million for overseas artists, awaiting claims that can take years. The worldwide reach of music is an exciting prospect, but data problems will be exponentially compounded when Rigo/Ringo is reported in Chinese or Hebrew characters. Discussions among neighboring rights organizations, at MIDEM and in the classical music communities, among others, have examined methods of standardizing reporting, but we must all make this a top priority.

With these steps, and plenty of hard work, we can all do more to ensure that performance royalties find their rightful owners. We cannot let bad data stand in the way of a modernized, revenue-positive industry model.

Tim R Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08252904763707256223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100108861927349386.post-47866702503005142362009-03-11T08:42:00.000-07:002009-03-11T09:01:03.944-07:00CPU + HBP (human brain power) The power of CommunityYou should read this, as this is about software enabling CPU’s to tap into the power of human intelligence, now that we have online access to billions of people and their brains. It is CPU + HBP (human brain power) that is now cost effectively achieved because of the connected billions of people.

Amazon has created a web service that essentially helps us distribute tasks to this global temporary work force to leverage human intelligence instead of trying to write software that emulates human intelligence. This is revolutionary!!

http://aws.amazon.com/mturk/

There are applications here for us. Imagine figuring out a way to let human ears and brains recognize music or images, for free or very low cost, say for monitoring purposes to track the items that were not machine recognized. Like ASCAP, BMI SESAC monitoring. Or even entering in back catalog of millions of works. Or de-duping records in databases.

Did you know that every time you log into a system on the Web and have to, for security purposes, type in those funny looking letters to make sure you aren’t a computer generating an attack on the system, that you are doing work for free. Those weird letters are OCR’d entries that some software couldn’t recognize. Once four or five people type in the same letters, the software accepts the letters entered by several human data entry clerks. So human intelligence decided what they were, and those humans did the work for free. There are billions of human transactions of this very type happening daily, so this application turned these few seconds and key strokes into very productive power.

We can tap into it too.

Tim

Tim R Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08252904763707256223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100108861927349386.post-43249016086788549872009-02-04T10:33:00.000-08:002009-04-10T17:11:32.370-07:00

MyWerx a Web based Software Company
Solving the Permission Problem one Work at a time

Our Mantra: MyWerx empowers Creators and their Representatives to Work together better.

At our core we collect and deliver validated copyright ownership information at the lowest possible cost per transaction.

We will do this by:

Developing technology based services for the supply chain of creators and their representatives that reduce their operating costs.

These services will infuse an open architected database with rights holder information.

The community application will enable creators and / or their representatives to register and validate their works.

Benefits are:

Reduced operating costs for the supply chain of creators and their representatives.

A transparent system for rights holder identification.

Software as a Service (Saas) offerings Envisioned

Validated copyright ownership data delivery services.

Copyright ownership data integrity services.

Early stage Escrow of digital content (a tamper proof upload to serve as 3rd party verification) to establish a cost effective proof of date of escrow to support data of creation claims.

US Copyright termination date, and termination of transfer reversions date calculation and alerts.

Supply Chain integration services.

Tim R Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08252904763707256223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100108861927349386.post-17626437894428552832009-01-31T08:56:00.000-08:002009-01-31T11:39:58.563-08:00When Creators UniteIt is because the internet is transparent, affordable and open to the masses, 1.4 billion of us, that its impact has been so profound. I Imagine profound levels of change for Creators when Internet based systems for this group empower and unify their collective mass to benefit from shared basic needs. In our world those shared basic needs are the ability to "be heard" and make a living.

The day is fast approaching when the universe of hits market creators and participants of digital content like songs, sound recordings, photos, and videos, will unite with their hobbyist and aspiring professional brethren. The combined numbers are staggering.

I researched the professional associations like the AFofM, AFTRA, BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, SAG, Screenwriters Guild and other associations of professionals in the digital content creation business. By comparing the ratio of models and actors to screenwriters and director as well as the ratio of musicians to bands and writers to songs in professional market, I have developed a projection of the number of Creators in the total market. By comparing these ratios to creator indicators in the digital content market like the number of bands on MySpace and Facebook, and photographers on Flickr, and video producers on YouTube and additionally the numbers of models and actors in photos and videos, I come up with an astounding 578 million participants. And I have many reasons to believe this maybe low. Two of those reasons are I haven't included counts for software developers and graphic artists.

My research wasn't intended to created a firm foundation of statistical data, it is an estimate. However, there are 6 billion of us on the planet and we all have right and left hemispheres in our brains. It stands to reason that at least 8% of us are using our right hemispheres to create things that could become digital content even if it is created out of pleasure activities.

If there are 578M potential digital content creators, how many of these people have the potential to disseminate works they create. Since the Internet is the vehicle enabling the global distribution of digital content we could limit our scope to those people on the net. The internet penetration reached 21.9% of the global population on June 30, 2008 according to internetworldstats.com. Maybe it stands to reason that I should reduce the total available market (TAM) of the 578M to the 21.9 percent who are on the net and get a Served Available Market (SAM) of 126M people who are creating and on the internet. I personally think this number is again conservative considering the fact that the ratios used to estimate the TAM were based on internet content excluding important sectors, and not including both digital and non-digital forms of the content types mentioned.

Regardless of how you wish to look at it, the number is HUGE. When a small portion of a HUGE population unite to create change, surprising things happen. MyWerx is creating various types of "value" for this HUGE group so they and the people who believe in them, and work with them can unite. Together we can create new systems for conducting business that are fair, transparent, and affordable to everyone. In that kind of market, talent, work ethic, and opportunity create a recipe for success on a much grander scale. Get involved. Every creator and every work counts. In the internet age, every voice has an opportunity to be heard. Do something about it!!

(The photo above was made available by Creative Commons permission ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffwerner/45939339/ )Tim R Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08252904763707256223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7100108861927349386.post-88622767096348460882009-01-09T20:18:00.000-08:002009-01-09T20:22:35.231-08:00Malcom Gladwell Speaks to Creativity and PerseveranceThe following link was sent to me by Tim DuBois. The technology failed to deliver at making the market "safe" for creators of digital products. Don't read too much into this announcement from Apple.

In case you didn't know EMI and many independent record companies released products through ITunes prior to this announcement without DRM. Now the rest of the 10m tracks will be by the end of the quarter. Part of the message is that now ITunes downloads will work on other types of devices.

One concept behind these decisions is that to thwart piracy, the price of digitally distributable product has to come down and you have to give consumers the conveniences they want. So now we will see $.69, $.99 and $1.29 downloads. Make it easy, make it cheap and you sell more of it.

What can you say, it is an imperfect world and at least we are witnessing movement. I will be testing the site tonight and plan to launch within two weeks to a control group for feedback and to observe how they will use the application.

I have also started this blog to manage some of this communication.

The blog contains MyWerx vision and mission statements as its initial post and all newsworthy updates and articles will be posted here.

I believe more than ever that the time is right for significant change in our industry, and that the vehicle for change is empowering you and the global community of creators to which you belong. The blog will be the source of ideas for change, the technology will enable change, but you are ultimately the driving force.

Millions of people made PayPal the standard for commerce transactions on E Bay. Once the people spoke, there was no turning back. Not even E Bay with its fire power could turn the tide when they tried to develop a competing solution.

MyWerx vision is to create tools that empower you. You can expect there to be backlash from an industry already turned upside down with change because the internet has undermined its control and the industry is in a state of chaos.

Now you have an opportunity to reshape the future of an industry and establish standards that are structured for the benefit of Creators and their business customers.

Please click the "Follow this Blog" button, and stay tuned to participate in our roll-out of the MyWerx prototype.

Thank you once again.

Sincerely,

Tim R. He ran Arista records, Gaylord Entertainment, Universal South, sold well over 100M records, signed Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Diamond Rio, put Brooks with Dunn to form Brooks and Dunn (this is one of his many giftings by the way…connecting people), and so many more. He is uniquely left and right brained, a CPA and a hit songwriter with I think 5 number one hits and more than 30 cuts overall, and has produced too many records to mention which include 20 number 1 hits. He is also serving as a Clinical Professor of Media and Entertainment at Owen’s School at Vanderbilt.
